  • Michele Catanzaro

    Michele Catanzaro is an awarded freelance science journalist based in Barcelona, Spain, and works for outlets such as Nature, Science, and El Periódico. He also lectures in science journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
  • Usha McFarling
    Speaker | Knight Science Journalism @MIT | USA
    Usha Lee McFarling is a science journalist who has reported for STAT, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Knight Ridder Washington Bureau, and the San Antonio Light. Her work has received a Pulitzer Prize for explanatory journalism, Polk Award, Victor Cohn prize, Edward R. Murrow award and the Bernard Lo, MD award in bioethics, among others. She currently serves on the board of the Association of Health Care Journalists and is publisher of Undark. Usha graduated from Brown University with a degree in biology and earned a master’s degree at UC Berkeley.
  • Peter Saueressig
    Speaker | Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) | Germany
    Peter Saueressig has worked in science and research communication for more than 20 years. He is head of communications at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) in Germany, where he designed the HITS Journalist in Residence programme.
  • Chhatra Karki

    Chhatra Karki is freelance science journalist based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the founding president of Nepal Forum of Science Journalists. He has over two decades of experience in newspaper and online news reporting, and covers in-depth stories on science and technology, environment, and health. He is the vice president of WFSJ.
  • Aghan Daniel
    Speaker | Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA) | Kenya
    Aghan Daniel is the Secretary General of the Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA), a position he has held since 2006. He founded Sayansi, a media publication owned by the Association. He has decades of experience writing and editing science articles.
 

The World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa from 1 – 5 December 2025, with the theme “Science journalism and social justice: journalism that builds understanding and resilience”.
