WORKSHOP

Empowering journalists and communicators to combat science misinformation with cutting-edge tools

In an era of AI-generated misinformation, science journalists need powerful tools to verify and investigate digital content.

This hands-on workshop will equip science reporters and editors with essential skills in digital forensics and verification. Participants will learn to detect synthetic media, reverse-search manipulated visuals, and trace misinformation in health, climate, and emerging tech.

Tools will include metadata analysis, timeline tracking, and verification of research claims. Real-world case studies, newsroom-ready workflows, and take-home toolkits will ensure practical learning. This session is designed for journalists covering science, health, and technology, and includes guided tool installation, live investigations, and group exercises, such as verifying visuals, exposing fake profiles, and tracking misinformation during major events.

The session will also introduce participants to AI-detection tools and machine learning platforms. Led by award-winning science journalists and GNI-certified trainers, the workshop emphasises speed, accuracy, and accountability.

Science journalists play a vital role in countering digital deception. This workshop will empower them with the tools and confidence to verify content, debunk pseudoscience, and protect scientific integrity, all of which align with WCSJ’s mission to advance quality journalism in the digital age.
