Discover the health sciences at Stellenbosch University
This field trip is based in Cape Town. Travel and accommodation costs are at your own expense.
Join Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences for a glimpse into our leading TB research and visit the cutting-edge biomedical facility where the Beta and Omicron variants of CoV-SARS-19 were first detected.
The scientific tour consists of two site visits:
- A visit to the pharmacokinetic research site at the Brooklyn Chest Hospital in Cape Town where clinician-scientists are developing and testing effective drug regimens to treat childhood tuberculosis (TB), including drug-resistant variants. Research emanating from the site informs national and WHO guidelines on TB treatment for children.
- The second leg of the tour takes you to the Biomedical Research Institute (BMRI) at Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Campus to experience the most advanced biomedical research facility on the African continent, which includes the Center for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) laboratory where the Beta and Omicron variants of CoV-SARS-19 were detected.
